Micron's moat is durable due to the immense capital expenditure, specialized engineering talent, and intellectual property required for leading-edge memory manufacturing. Customer qualification cycles create switching costs, and the limited number of major players (oligopoly) provides efficient scale. Its lead in HBM is strengthening this moat.
Moat Erosion Risks
- •Rapid advancements by competitors in next-gen HBM or alternative memory technologies
- •Significant oversupply in the broader memory market post-AI supercycle
- •Escalating geopolitical tensions affecting global supply chains or market access
