Micron's moat is primarily driven by its technological leadership in advanced memory, particularly HBM, and the immense capital and R&D required to compete at this level. The oligopolistic nature of the memory market creates efficient scale and high barriers to entry, reinforcing its position. Continuous innovation is key for persistence.
Moat Erosion Risks
- •Rapid advancements by competitors (Samsung, SK Hynix) in next-gen HBM or alternative memory technologies
- •Excessive capital spending leading to industry oversupply and price erosion
- •Potential for new entrants or disruptive technologies, albeit highly unlikely in high-end memory
